I See Stars

I purchased this kit at a local discount fabric shop, many years ago.

Every once in awhile I pull it out and work on it a little.  Evey little bit counts on this project.

I have been struggling with how to fill in the outside corners. I tried making a template for the fill in spots = big fail there.

I decided to just continue the 2 1/2″ strips out.  As you can see it is not complete yet, but there is a spot of wonderment that just made me stop and take a breath.

The original pattern had the side points cut off – but I didn’t like that and since they gave enough fabric anyway, I decided to keep it whole and just kept going with it.

The whole reason I am posting this picture here is because of this:

That, my friend, is the center of a 5 point star quilt. I was more that flabbergasted when I turned it over and saw that it as close to perfect as anything I have ever seen on my table.

Sadly this now sets the bar for this quilt. I have the quilting design sketched out, I have a couple corners to fill in and trim this up.  The size is somewhere between 76 & 80 inches square.

A little more progress

Well, progress is progress. One day I woke up and said “Today I am gonna tackle that star” and I am happy to say I succeeded.  A couple minor layout issues, but I am accepting of them because it came together so well.

So this was the layout plan:
But this is what it ended up being:

It’s almost hard to tell what didn’t quite turn out – but if you look closely at the corners, I ended up with 2 blues together and 2 browns together and I decided to leave it because the whole thing went together so well except for that little bitty thing.

Star Quilt

Star of Stripes

Got this one started but decided to modify it a little bit.

The pattern actually called for clipping off the tips of the stars to make an almost square quilt, but I had more than enough of the stripe material that I pushed them out and the whole star is completed.   Also, the directions said to applique the completed star onto a backing but I am going to piece the background together so that is going to take some extra time to finish off. I need to make a pattern for the pieces and we have had horrible weather this past week and expecting more to come.

I have the 5 diamonds done but I have to pick up some drawing paper to make the pattern for the corners so this one will have to wait a few more days to get done.

Update – 12/3

I was working on the pattern so I was able to snap a quick picture of part of the star.
