If the boots fit x2

Made a couple more signs for a fund raiser this spring – they didn’t quite turn out like I planned. A bit too rustic. Something to do with the stain that I used on the boards – it mush have been more of a varnish not a stain. The paint had problems sticking to it. But I think either one of these could be put up in a barn, in the tack room and they would be awesome!

When I do signs like this using a vinyl stencil, I always make the reverse one – why waste the vinyl. If I don’t make it, I hold on to it…just in case down the road I decide I do want the reverse one – or someone does!

Wood Signs

I was trying to do some signs for a fundraising event and my cutter decided to be a pill and not cut anything that I could use. I had come to terms about it and my hubby says “Well do you want to use the router and ‘rout’ them out?”

Well hell ya, but when ever we try to do something in a rush we both just get flustered and go to separate corners.

We haven’t use that router thing much so we were rusty but we both feel it was a huge success!!!

I really played around with stain options on these – Laundry is a mix of forest green paint mixed with a little bit of dark walnut stain. Farmhouse is a blue stain then I took the cloth from the walnut stain that was used to wipe off those boards and wiped it on here. Helped give it a little depth in color.

These two signs were done on 1×4 – so they are about 3 1/2″ x 30″ – a nice little sign to fill a spot on the wall.

Once these two were done, we were on a roll. So we took the same cutting file and did another sign, a little bigger – this one is on a 1×6 piece of cedar, stained a dark brown. We goof and had the wrong bit in when we started cutting so there is a texture/shadowing being done on each letter. It looks kinda kool to us. 1″x6″x36″ 1/8″ deep cut.

The chips are stacked

I finally figured out how I wanted to finish these off. Not bad, if I do say so myself.
Don’t they look like huge cup cakes?

These weren’t very hard to do, if you have the right tools:

  1. We took 2 6″ round cedar posts
  2. Cut into 1 1/2″ slices – band saw (the post was too big for the chop saw)
  3. Rounded the edges – table router
  4. Painted 1 set of white and 1 set of red – paint both sides – paint, brushes
  5. Cut crown from a sponge and sponged the “King” one side only, sponge

Next I have to make the board, but I’m conflicted:

  • painted on the deck?
  • canvas weaved/sewn together?
  • 6″ patio blocks laid out, permanently in the lawn?
  • The board for this will be 48″ square, minimally

Holidays Hangover

Happy Holidays to one and all. They are done and in the books – thank goodness.

Did not make any progress on any of my projects – very bad – I had the month off work and accomplished nothing. So that means I have to set a better pace for January so that I can get somethings done this year!!!

Started a new little project – this is a joint project with the hubby. We are gonna make some custom cribbage boards. This year it is all about using the crafting tools/toys we have purchased and have just been sitting around, doing nothing. So we are using the router toy that the hubby got about 5 years ago and has made only a handful of things!!!! To be fair, I’ve only quilted a handful of things since I got my Sweetie (HQSS), so we are in the same boat.

Working on this board is really showing me how much I have forgotten in Illustrator – but I love rediscovering all the things you can do with it.
