If the boots fit x2

Made a couple more signs for a fund raiser this spring – they didn’t quite turn out like I planned. A bit too rustic. Something to do with the stain that I used on the boards – it mush have been more of a varnish not a stain. The paint had problems sticking to it. But I think either one of these could be put up in a barn, in the tack room and they would be awesome!

When I do signs like this using a vinyl stencil, I always make the reverse one – why waste the vinyl. If I don’t make it, I hold on to it…just in case down the road I decide I do want the reverse one – or someone does!

Wood Signs

I was trying to do some signs for a fundraising event and my cutter decided to be a pill and not cut anything that I could use. I had come to terms about it and my hubby says “Well do you want to use the router and ‘rout’ them out?”

Well hell ya, but when ever we try to do something in a rush we both just get flustered and go to separate corners.

We haven’t use that router thing much so we were rusty but we both feel it was a huge success!!!

I really played around with stain options on these – Laundry is a mix of forest green paint mixed with a little bit of dark walnut stain. Farmhouse is a blue stain then I took the cloth from the walnut stain that was used to wipe off those boards and wiped it on here. Helped give it a little depth in color.

These two signs were done on 1×4 – so they are about 3 1/2″ x 30″ – a nice little sign to fill a spot on the wall.

Once these two were done, we were on a roll. So we took the same cutting file and did another sign, a little bigger – this one is on a 1×6 piece of cedar, stained a dark brown. We goof and had the wrong bit in when we started cutting so there is a texture/shadowing being done on each letter. It looks kinda kool to us. 1″x6″x36″ 1/8″ deep cut.

Gone Fishing

Well I’ve got them done and they turned out awesome, even if I do say so myself.

The first sign (Arrow) I actually stained with a penetrating blue stain, but I really, really did not like it. So when I stained the second one with the dark walnut I stained over the blue and that turned out so cool. I’ll have to remember this for the next signs I do.

2 for the money

So I wanted to make a sign for someone for a gift and I just happened to have a long piece of material laying around.

TADA – just enough for 2 signs – what do you think of that?!!

When I pulled the negative off of the first sign, it came off so nice that I just couldn’t waste it!!!

I had some stencil material left from cutting the first sign so I punted and TADA – another sign for no more money.

These are not completely done, I am going to wash them with a dark stain. Doing the stain wash after the white paint helps tone down the brightness of the white paint (and makes it look not so new)!

Barn Quilt – 2018

So far so good.

I fell in love with a quilt pattern, but I knew I didn’t have the drive to make it so I decided to do a new barn quilt for this year.

I was originally going to do the same detailed pattern but once I started it I thought about it and the barn quilt is seen from such a distance that something with that much detail would just get lost so, I simplified it a bit. But I’m just not 100% satisfied with it … or i’m just bored and still want to paint.

Holiday Craft

So, my goal this month is to finish up some of my UFO (UnFinished Objects) and/or to use up the supplies I seem to be hoarding in my craft room, the garage, the trailer, etc.

I had a piece of this wood laying around, left over from some other things I made, I had even painted it white already – if that isn’t screaming “Christmas Project” I don’t know what is…

So I whipped out another stencil and made this today.

It’s made on a piece of fence post wood, 5.25″ x 36″. It’s just so darn cute, if you ask me!!!

Another Pallet Wood Project

My Horoscope says “No new projects”, but finishing projects is highly recommended.

Well, my horoscope doesn’t know me then, cuz this chick is gonna craft in the holidays!!!

So I had a friend tag me a reminder of something she wanted for christmas last year and didn’t get and since I seem to have lots of free time on my hands this month, I decided to use up some of the stuff I have laying around and do the crafts that I love to do.  Creativity B-A-B-Y!

So I pulled out some of my pallet wood that I had torn apart a few weeks ago, and laid it out.  I then stained/painted some boards to give it some pizzaz.

I love, love, love how the wood took the paint/stain – it muted it nicely. Especially with the lettering done in white paint. It’s a big phrase so I feel it needed the color behind it – to pop out.

When cutting the stencils for something this big, you have to do it in pieces and because I’m cheap and want to use as much of the template material as possible so sometimes it’s not a straight forward process of just cutting the stencil, laying in on and painting. So the design doesn’t always come out exactly as you are expecting it to. But hey, I think it turned out great.

It’s a bit choppy on the letters, not crisp, but that’s because of the course texture of the wood. This pallet manufacturer Unaka Forest Products had even sanded it down after staining, but pallet wood is not known to be a real high quality of wood, now is it.

Painting on barnwood

So I have a crush on Barn Wood projects so I decided to try one for myself.

This is a project not for the faint of heart or for someone without patience!!

I spent 4 hours cleaning the barn wood, because true barn wood has worked all it’s life. It came covered in ants, a bit soft and for sure grungy.  Soaked it, scrubbed it – wait until dry and repeat.   I did a couple pieces at a time, but still, a putzy part of this project for sure.

I cut a vinyl stencil to do this, but this wood is by no means smooth. And when you are a perfectionist that can really drive you crazy. So the closer you look the choppier it is, but from a distance it’s pretty cool.

I have been on a wood/paint kick lately…so I just kept going

We have our last fundraising event for the Avon 39 walk to End Breast Cancer, so i said I would make a couple (??) more signs for them to raffle off.  Lots of sweaty palms getting these ready, but lots of fun too.

12″ x 12″ oak plywood

12″ x 18″ pine plywood, Pledge of Allegiance

12″ x 36″, pine plywood – this is huge

Because I am frugal (aka cheap!) I hate throwing away part 1/2 of the vinyl when I do one of these projects. So …. I decided to do a ying/yang version:

These are 12″ x 24″ inches, oak plywood signs. It was a little more work, but I hate throwing usable stuff away – said the scrapbook/craft hoarder!!!! I did these two signs a little different. I did not stain the boards before I painted them.

I stained them after…

It’s sort of hard to see in this picture, but by staining with a dark stain after painting, it aged these really well. I love how they turned out.
