This week, we said good-bye to the last of our 4 original horses – Polka Dottie. She was our “4th Wheel” in a family of 3 riders. We took here everywhere we went and would just plop some unknown person on her for the day at a show and she would just toddle of with them for the day. She never gave them more than they could handle, but just enough to challenge them. Many a kid in our area rode her on trail rides or at shows.
2 years ago (this saturday) I had to put my mare to rest because of an injury. When that happened Dottie went into a depression and lost about 200 pounds. When the vet came out I told her “there was no way I could loose both of them within a month of each other”. So we did some low maintenance things and changed her feeding schedule and she popped back up and was our shining star. She always had a nicker when you came around the corner of the barn or thru the door. Our barn is very empty now, even though the 2 boys are still there.
